Samburu is the most popular reserve in northern Kenya.  It is located in Samburu county and is covers an area of around 165km2. The reserve is well endowed with species both birds and mammals. It is popular because of its unique desert-like setting and it boasts several wildlife species not found in other parks in Kenya. They include the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx (Also referred as Samburu Special). The reserve is also popular with a minimum of 900 elephants. Large predators such as the Lion, Leopard and Cheetah are an important attraction (Kamunyak the Miracle Lioness that adapted the baby Oryx is a resident in the reserve).

Accommodations in the reserve are well located and are near the reserve and in some of them, one can easily spot wild animals from the comfort of one’s room. They range from 3 star to 5 star accommodation places and one can enjoy the authenticity of the environment in the vast Samburu plains. The semi-nomadic community around the reserve will excite you with their authentic cultural activities and practices.
