Tsavo East National park is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Kenya. The park was established in 1948 and covers an area of up to 13,747km2. This large park is located in an arid area. Big tracts of this large park designated “remote animal wilderness” are not accessible to visitors but there is plenty for the wildlife lover to see in the accessible areas. The park is known for the Yatta plateau and the Galana River. The popular species found in the park include vast herds of dust-red elephant, Rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, pods of hippo, crocodile, waterbucks, Lesser Kudu, gerenuk and the prolific bird life features 500 recorded species.
