Volcanoes National Park is one of Rwanda’s most popular parks. It i9s located in northwestern Rwanda and borders Viruga National park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The park is highly famous for hosting the endangered mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys. It is home to five of the eight volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains and covers an area of up to 165km2. The park was gazetted in the year 1925 making it one of the oldest in the country. Other wildlife includes monkeys and hyenas and over 178 bird species.
